Winter Carnival Event Cancellation

Winter Carnival Event Cancellation

Lewisporte Public Library
Feb. 11 - Story Time for children 3-5 years of age will start at 1 p.m. Please drop by the library or call 535-2519 to register your child.

United for Haiti
Feb. 11 - An evening of music and hope will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial United Church in Grand Falls-Windsor. This special service of worship and song in support of the people of Haiti is a response from the four United Church of Canada pastoral charges in central Newfoundland: Northern Arm , Trinity United in Botwood, Bishop's Falls (including Norris Arm North, Riverside, Bishop's Falls and First) and Memorial United. There will be a free will offering in support of Haiti and a cup of tea to follow.

Exhibition of Skaters
Feb. 12 - The Notre Dame Skating Club will be hosting an "Exhibition of Skaters" as a part of the Lewisporte Winter Carnival from 5-6 p.m. Admission is free and followed by a free public family skate from 6-7 p.m. There will also be other activities taking place; face painting, flowers, Valentine treat bags and a picture with a two dog sled team. Hope to see you there!

Annual General Meeting
Feb. 15 - The Interfaith Goodwill Annual General meeting will be held at the Pentecostal Church at 7 p.m. Election of officers will take place. All are welcome.

Hymn Sing
Feb. 21 - A Memorial Hymn Sing will be held 7 p.m. at St. Matthew's United Church, sponsored by the Cemetery Committee.

Breakfast with Your Local Cadets
Feb. 27 - The 617 Dambusters will be hosting a community breakfast at the Kinsmen Club of Notre Dame from 8 - 11 a.m. Tickets available from the cadets or at the door.

St. Matthew's United Church
March 13 - The UCW Anniversary dessert/tea, bake, craft and preserve sale with mystery parcels will take place at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew's United Church auditorium. All welcome.

Central Health
The seasonal influenza vaccine is now available to the following groups: All children six months to 23 months of age; health care workers; residents of long-term care homes; household contacts of immunocompromised and other individuals at risk of influenza-related complications; adults 65 years of age and older; adults and children with chronic heart and lung disease, or with other diseases severe enough to require regular medical treatment or hospital care such as: severe asthma, diabetes, kidney disease, cancer, etc., other essential workers in the community, including police, ambulance, firefighters or other persons whose services may be considered essential and pregnant women and workers involved with the poultry industry. Pneumococcal vaccine is also available for people 65 years or older, and those of all ages with chronic disease. The Pneumococcal vaccine is only needed once in a lifetime. To book an appointment for the seasonal influenza vaccine or pneumococcal vaccine, please call 535-0777.

Found
On Jan. 24 there was a bicycle found on Rowe Street in Lewisporte. With positive identification the owner of the bicycle can pick it up at the Lewisporte detachment of the RCMP.

Checkpoints
Effective immediately and until Feb. 28, 2010, the RCMP Detachments from Carmanville, Fogo, Lewisporte and Twillingate will continue to conduct checkpoints in their detachment areas as well as joint checkpoints. If you want to report an impaired driver call your nearest RCMP Detachment or call 1-800-709-RCMP. If possible provide the plate number and description of the vehicle and the identity of the driver.

NORRIS ARM

Auction
Feb. 19 - An auction will be held at the Valley Lounge with all proceeds going to the Norris Arm Defibulator Fund. Items include binoculars, gift certificates, tanning package, two rounds of golf, automobile and household items, and much more. Cash donations will also be accepted. Come and support your local fire department.

GANDER BAY AND AREA

Lifestyle Clinic
Central Health is sponsoring a Lifestyle clinic the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at the Public Health Nursing office located at the medical clinic in Victoria Cove. This clinic will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Drop in for a blood pressure check, blood sugar check or to discuss issues such as exercise, healthy eating, stress management and sexuality. This service is free and available to anyone over the age of 16 years. Come over and bring a friend. For more information call the Public Health Nurse at 709-676-2155.

TWILLINGATE/N.W.I.

Seasonal Influenza Vaccine Clinics
If you haven't already received the Seasonal Influenza Vaccine and wish to do so call for an appointment at 884-5426. Clinics will be held at both Twillingate and NWI Public Health Office. Vaccine is being provided for: All children age 6-23 months, health care workers, essential service workers, household contacts of immunocompromised and other individuals at risk of influenza related complications, pregnant women, workers involved in the poultry industry, 65 years and over, adults and children with chronic disease. The Pneumococcal Vaccine is also available for those 65 and over and those with chronic disease.

Canadian Cancer Society
The Canadian Cancer Society needs your help. As March approaches, so does Daffodil Days. We need some great volunteers to help us sell fresh cut daffodils. You can help provide support to all the people of Newfoundland and Labrador by helping to sell daffodils. We need individuals and community groups to get involved with bringing these flowers of hope to our province. We can't do it without you, so please contact our offices or visit www.cancer.ca for more information on how to get involved.

Gander Women's Center
If you are woman in need of support or need a few questions answered the Gander Women's Center may be the place for you. The center is open from Monday to Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Call 256-4395 or toll free 1-866-442-4445. This may be the place to help you deal with your problems or concerns.
