Lewisporte 7th Annual Relay For Life

June 12 - The Lewisporte 7th Annual Relay For Life will be held on June 12, 2010 at the Lewisporte Recreation Complex from 2 p.m. - 2 a.m. Any teams interested in registering can contact Melanie Tucker at 535-3080 or Penny Pardy at (709) 489-0315/1-866-545-9534. Any survivor who wishes to register or obtain more information on the Survivors Reception can contact Dawn Elliott at 261-2379. The general public is welcome and encouraged to come out and help pay tribute to the lives of loved ones who have struggled against this terrible disease and celebrate survivorship.

Annual Public Meeting

June 15 - The Recreation Committee will hold their annual public meeting at the Recreation building at 7 p.m. All are welcome.

Checkpoints

Effective immediately and until June 30, 2010, the RCMP Detachments from Carmanville, Fogo, Lewisporte and Twillingate will continue to conduct checkpoints in their detachment areas as well as joint checkpoints. If you want to report an impaired driver call your nearest RCMP Detachment or call 1-800-709-RCMP. If possible provide the plate number and description of the vehicle and the identity of the driver.

Executive Meeting

June 17 - The Retired Teachers' Assn. of NL (Central division) will hold an executive meeting in the Anglican Parish Hall, Fogo, during the a.m. At 1:30 p.m. there will be a general information session for all retired teachers on Fogo Island. For information call 266-2570, 256-4617 or 535-2569.

TWILLINGATE

Recreation Month

June 18 - Teen open mic night at 7:30 p.m. at the Orange Lodge. Have a relaxing night in between exams. Open to grades 7-12. Acts by some of our very talented teens. Pop, water, and food will be sold.

June 20 - Family activity day and picnic from 2:30-4 p.m. at the Ballfield. Weather permitting or stadium otherwise. Fun activities for the whole family. Bring your picnic blanket and lunch for a fun active afternoon.

June 27 - Senior's tea - 2:30 p.m. at the Lion's Club. A Relaxing afternoon for seniors. Tea, coffee, and dessert provided. Live entertainment by some very talented young singers.

June 9 - The Retired Teachers Assn. of NL (Central Division) will hold its 30th annual banquet and dance at Hotel Gander. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Music by Martin Coady. For information call 256-4617/535-2569 or 489-5243.

34th Annual Monte Carlo Charity Fundraising Event

Call for Applications

The Memorial University of Newfoundland Medical School Class of 2013 is now accepting applications for proceeds from Monte Carlo night, our annual charity fundraising event. Last year, we raised $57,000, which was shared among seven deserving charities in Newfoundland and Labrador.

If your charity would like to apply for a portion of the proceeds from this years Monte Carlo night, please send us an application outlining the following: description of charity (50 words or less), history of charity, services/programs offered, population served, demonstrated need, contact information and charity registration number. To be eligible to apply for proceeds from Monte Carlo night, you must be a registered charitable organization, and must not have received money from Monte Carlo in the past five years. Applicants should note that, due to the high volume of applications received, applications not in compliance with the above guidelines will not be considered. Applications should be postmarked no later than July 2, 2010. If you require further information, please contact the Office of Student Affairs, Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland, at (709) 777-6690, or e-mail the Charity Selection Committee at charityselection@munmed.ca.

The Autism Society of NL, South and Central Chapter will hold Parent 2 Parent Night the third Thursday monthly from 8 - 9:30 p.m. at 7 High Street, 2nd Floor Town Square Mall.
