TWILLINGATE — The Twillingate Lions Club held their anniversary dinner to mark Charter Night on May 11.

“It is truly amazing, that with a history spanning 59 years, the Twillingate Lions Club continues to support the needs of families and communities with their generous donations and volunteer service,” read Deborah Chaulk, Constituency assistant to The Isles of Notre Dame MHA Derrick Dalley.

MHA Dalley’s message went further explaining, “Initiatives such as Hospital Pond, a community bus for disabled persons and seniors, new equipment for the fire department, and the Twillingate Playground of Memories have been successful with support from the Lions Club. In addition to the Lions International, the Guide Dog program and the Max Simms Camp, the Lions Club has offered the use of their facility to many groups and committees also involved in improving quality of life in our community.

“The Club exhibits a steadfast commitment to our families and community and it is remarkable to see it is still thriving after 59 years. The volunteers have given so much of their time and talents to answer the needs of our area, and I commend them and offer my most sincere gratitude.”

Certainly one Lion who was due special recognition was Jack Lambert who was presented a memento for his 50th year as a member of the Club.  Lion Jack is a steadfast member of the club and has held many executive positions within the Lions Organization.
