LEWISPORTE - The 11th Annual Craft and Trade Show will be held on Sept. 18 - 20 and again this year the committee is expecting a lot of great exhibits that will surely have something for everyone.

Town of Lewisporte Tourism and Recreation director Derek Bennett is expecting a lot of people coming out and taking part in the 11th Annual Craft and Trade Show.

"There are a lot of benefits that come with having the Craft and Trade Show in Lewisporte," said Mr. Bennett. "We get to promote our town and local businesses, which is the Chambers (Lewisporte and Area Chamber of Commerce) goal."

The Craft and Trade show is not only a way to promote local business, which is one of the most important things, but it is also a major fundraiser.

"One-third of all profits go towards the Woolfrey's Pond boardwalk and one-third each towards the Town and Chamber for initiatives for community development," said Mr. Bennett.

This year there are a lot of people from all over the Island coming to Lewisporte to show their special talents and to promote their businesses. As of last week there were only 10 booths left and organizers are expecting thousands of people to walk through the doors.

Repeat

Since the beginning of the Craft and Trade Show George Aucoin has been showing people his talents. He has been making crafts since 1992 as a hobby after he retired early. Eleven years ago he took part in the first local Craft and Trade Show and has been attending every year.

"I use to only make puffin ornaments, then I started making wiggles pull toy which was inspired by my granddaughter Haley and has become my best seller," said Mr. Aucoin. "I like going to the trade show, I get to see a lot of people and a lot of the same people year after year and it's great."

The Craft and Trade Show will be showcasing many talented people this year that enjoy making all sorts of crafts, jewelry, woodwork, paintings, stained glass, fudge, soap stone carvings and many government and other commercial booths.

This year there is a special presentation planned. The Bistro in Campbellton will be having chef Trevor Rideout make an appearance with a cooking demonstration and samples of The Bistro menu for people to enjoy. This will be taking place on Saturday afternoon.

There are a lot of exciting things happening at the Craft and Trade Show and there will be a $500 voucher for a lucky person who is attending the event. Armstrong and Quaile Associates will be having the "Mad Dash for Cash" event where $620 will be thrown on the floor in bills and coins and the person who is picked to play the game has to pick up as much money as possible in a certain amount of time. The amount of money that is collected, Armstrong and Quaile will donate an equal amount to the Daffodil Place.

The doors at B & L Cold Storage will opening on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. and close at 9:30 p.m. Friday the doors open at 1 p.m. and close at 9:30 p.m. and on Saturday doors open at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m.
