LEWISPORTE - The 2010 Lewisporte Mussel Bed Soiree line-up has been decided with three bands highlighting the annual concert at the recreation field next to the Lewisporte Arena.
This year Prism, Helix and Doug & the Slugs will take to the stage during the classic rock concert to be held during the Mussel Bed Soiree celebrations in 2010.
"The Mussel Bed Soiree traditionally uses classic rock bands for its concert," said Town of Lewisporte Recreation director Derek Bennett. "We decided to have Helix back because of the positive feedback from last years show and requests to have them play again.
"The other two bands fit in with the classic rock theme and have not performed in Newfoundland for a number of years."
Prism originates from Vancouver, British Columbia and was active from 1977 to 1984 and again from 1988 to present. The band has released a total of 13 albums to date, with success primarily in Canada where they won the Canadian music industry Juno award for Group of the Year in 1981.
Helix was formed in 1974 and has been recording and performing for over 30 years. Their first album "Breaking Loose" was released in 1979, but they are best known for their single "Rock You" from 1984.
Doug & the Slugs released their debut single "Too Bad", was recorded in September 1979 and the song quickly took to the radio nationally and within six months lead to a distribution deal with RCA Records. The album "Cognac & Bologna" sold over 50,000 copies and resulted in two 1981 Juno award nominations.
Mr. Bennett said the bands were chosen in hopes to draw a large crowd.
"Last year our numbers were down, partially because of the number of concerts and festivals being held in Central Newfoundland and then the day of the concert we had thunder and lightening with heavy rain," said Mr. Bennett. "This year with the present line-up we do expect our attendance to be comparable to the 2007 and 2008 concerts."

As far as Doug And The Slugs are concerned let us not forget that the original Doug (Doug Bennett) passed away in 2004. I'm happy to say however that the band still brings it on and is a hoot to hear and dance to! Enjoy them at the Mussel Bed Soiree Lewisportians!! Dammit!! I might even come down for the fun!!
