LEWISPORTE – A call for volunteers has been made for the upcoming 2012 Come Home Year celebrations by the Town of Lewisporte.
“We are in the process of forming a committee,” said Town of Lewisporte Tourism and Recreation director Derek Bennett. “Councillor Jim Snow and Mayor Brian Peckford are co-chairing the committee and we are looking for people to get involved, within the community, to help with this committee. This allows us to have a variety of different ideas and to get people in the community involved in a big way.
“If people don’t want to commit for the entire year, but still want to be involved in some way, whether it’s a certain event, a series of events or for only a few hours then we will find some way to accommodate that.”
The Come Home Year celebrations will consist of monthly events held throughout 2012, with the kick-off event on Dec. 31, New Year’s Eve.
“We thought it would be a great way to start off the New Year and it will be a family event,” said Mr. Bennett. “Events will take place at the stadium, bowling alley and the Lion’s Centre and there will be fireworks, games and entertainment for all the family to enjoy.”
