LEWISPORTE WINTER CARNIVAL 2010

Plans are well underway for the annual Lewisporte Winter Carnival set for Feb. 8-13.

Whether or not there there's snow may influence which events take place, but there will still be something for everyone to enjoy in the event that the winter weather doesn't come this way.

Lewsiporte recreation director Derek Bennett is in the process of putting together a schedule of events that will be finalized in early February.

The fun-filled week will include snow sculptures, fishing derby, bowling, skating, an afternoon at the movies, sliding, bonfire, prize giveaways, snowboard demonstration and more. A decision is yet to be made on whether or not a Family Day/Kid's Day will be held.

Anyone with suggestions of items that could be included in the carnival is asked to contact Mr. Bennett at the Town Hall no later than Jan. 29 at noon in order to allot time for the schedule to be completed. He can be reached at 535-2737 or derek@lewisportecanada.com

A call has also been sent out for anyone who might like to volunteer to help out at any Winter Carnival events. Also, any service organization, church or youth group that would like to host an event or meal and be included on the schedule is encouraged to consider taking part in the Carnival. Again, contact Mr. Bennett on or before the Jan. 29 deadline.

"This is a great way for them to get involved while also highlighting their group or association," said Mr. Bennett.

Details of the schedule of events will be made public through up dates in the media, the Town of Lewisporte website www.lewisportecanada.com and printed pamphlets that will be distributed at various locations throughout town.

"We are looking forward to a great winter celebration in Lewisporte," said Mr. Bennett.
