GANDER -
The man charged in the Sept. 10 and 11, 2009 assault and robbery of an 88-year-old Horwood man will stand trial in Supreme Court.
Wade Kenneth Arthur Manuel, 28, faces seven charges - break and enter, two counts of assault with a weapon or imitation, assault, being unlawfully in a dwelling house and robbery.
Trudy Euginia Pryor, 66, has also been charged in the incident.
Horwood resident Horace King, now 89, has said a man and woman broke into his house last fall and demanded money, and that when they didn't get any, they assaulted him.
A preliminary inquiry was held in provincial court in Gander Jan. 19, with Judge Timothy J. Chalker presiding, where it was determined there was enough evidence against Manuel to warrant a trial. Details of the proceedings can't be reported for fear of tainting the jury that will eventually hear the case.
Manuel will remain in custody until his next court appearance, Feb. 8.
Pryor, meanwhile, is set to appear in provincial court in Gander Feb. 9 to enter a plea to the charges against her, which include break and enter and committing an offence, assault, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, robbery and willfully committing indecent acts with intent to assault or offend.
