Going once, going twice - sold out?
If you're interested in attending the 25th Anniversary of the Calypso Fantasy Auction on April 30, you may want to get your ticket. The auction will be held at the Lewisporte Kinsmen Center at 7 p.m., with its third annual wine tasting event beginning at 6 p.m.
Event coordinator Angie Welsh said items are still being donated to the auction on a daily basis and tickets are limited.
"There will be hundreds of items up for auction," she said. "As of today there are 121 donors, but they all have donated upwards of three items each and items continue coming into my office every day."
Items range from a global positioning system, Johnny Reid concert tickets, artwork, theme park passes, hotel room packages to clothing. The auction door prize will be two tickets anywhere West Jet flies, however, the ticket holder must be present to accept the tickets.
"Donors have been very supportive," said Calypso manager Colleen Barrett. "The excitement for the auction is definitely building."
This years auctioneers include Roger Barnett and Don Manuel. Mr. Manuel was the auctioneer at the first Calypso Auction held June 13, 1985.
The Calypso Foundation provides individuals with developmental disabilities with employment and vocational opportunities. The foundation has been serving the area for 33 years and currently has 25 people who participate in the program on a full-time basis.
Tickets for the auction are available at the Calypso Foundation and all proceeds will aid the Calypso Living Skills Program. The program assists participants in achieving their potential given their abilities and skills.
For further information regarding the Calypso Foundation or the 25th Annual Calypso Fantasy Auction contact Ms. Barrett at 535-2604 or Ms. Welsh at 535-0933.
