TRANS CANADA HIGHWAY - Three people are dead following a motor vehicle accident on the Trans Canada Highway, 10 kilometres west of Gander near Twin Ponds.

Two women, ages 21 and 40, and a 33-year-old male were killed in the accident, which was reported to have occurred at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 19.

According to an RCMP media release, a small car struck the side of a large vehicle as it was heading west on the highway. The car then struck a tractor trailer head on as it lost control and veered into the lane for oncoming traffic, becoming lodged partially underneath it in the process.

Members of the Gander detachment of the RCMP and RCMP traffic specialists were on the scene last night, and were expected to continue their investigation on Friday. The media release advised motorists to expect some delays and slowdowns as the RCMP continued its work.
