"There will be plenty of ongoing events throughout the week," said Town of Lewisporte recreation director Derek Bennett. "There will be something for people of all ages."
Ongoing events throughout the Carnival will include a snow sculpture competition open to individuals, families or groups, an inland trout contest and an amateur photography contest.
Mr. Bennett asks that once a snow sculpture is complete, immediately contact the Town Hall at 535-2737 so the sculpture can be judged and photographed before any elements are able to change its colour or features. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers.
The local trout and carr fishing contest will award prizes for the two heaviest trout and the heaviest trout of a youth 12 and under.
Many other events including skating, bowling, meals and concerts will be hosted throughout the Carnival.
"There will be a gospel concert to benefit the food bank during the Carnival," said Dan Bursey, who is assisting with special events for the Town of Lewisporte. "That will include myself and a few friends and is sponsored by Compassion Canada."
Singer/songwriter Terry Penney will also be hosting a CD release concert on Valentine's Day as part of the Carnival events with free admission, but limited seating.
"There will be several skating events for different age groups," said Mr. Bennett. "We are also still welcoming any service groups or businesses who may have a special event or special sale they would like to hold during Carnival week to certainly let us know and the committee will promote that event for them."
