Former Fogo Island Town clerk facing charges

An internal audit by the newly amalgamated Town of Fogo Island and subsequent investigation by the RCMP Fogo Island Detachment have resulted in the former Town clerk being charged with fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000, breach of trust, forgery and uttering a forged document.

On June 23, 2011 the RCMP Fogo Island Detachment received a complaint of fraud from the Town of Fogo Island as a result of an internal audit. The audit revealed misappropriation of funds from the Town's payroll in excess of $30,000.

An extensive investigation was completed by the RCMP Fogo Island Detachment and revealed that amount to be in excess of $60,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Gander Provincial Court on Tuesday, March 13.
