An internal audit by the newly amalgamated Town of Fogo Island and subsequent investigation by the RCMP Fogo Island detachment has revealed an amount in excess of $60,000 from the Town's payroll was embezzled. The accused left their job before the island amalgamated in December 2010.

The court docket listed over 170 charges against the accused, however Crown prosecutor Jerrod Moore informed Judge Bruce Short the Crown will withdraw counts one to 167.

That list is now boiled down to five charges, including fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000, breach of trust, forgery and uttering a forged document.

The matter is adjourned until May 8 for election/plea.
