The RCMP in Port aux Basques is warning people of an email scam that attempts to fool people into thinking they are giving information to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

The RCMP received a complaint of the fraudulent email that asked for personal information including name, address and social insurance number.

Officers contacted the CRA and were informed that the agency rarely communicates with taxpayers through email, and never asks for confidential information through email.
