Temporary air services to replace ferry

The Department of Transportation and Works advises that the MV Beaumont Hamel, which is currently serving the communities of Fogo Island and Change Islands, has experienced a thruster issue and had to be taken out of service.

The Department of Transportation and Works advises that the MV Beaumont Hamel, which is currently serving the communities of Fogo Island and Change Islands, has experienced a thruster issue and had to be taken out of service.

The department is sending the MV Nonia to replace the vessel, and expects the MV Nonia will continue the ferry service sometime on Thursday. For Wednesday, May 2) there will be a fixed-wing service put in place starting at 7 a.m. to serve the community of Fogo Island. Travellers can call 709-256-4414 to make a reservation or to get further information about the air service. The fare for travelling on the aircraft will remain the same as it was for travelling on the ferry, but travellers must pay with cash.

There will also be a helicopter service in place between Farewell and Change Islands starting at 9 a.m. from Farewell. The fare for this service is also the same as the ferry fare, and must also be paid in cash.
