A 71-year-old American man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single motorcycle collision on Route 355, Stoneville access road this morning (May 23).
The Gander Lewisporte District RCMP received the call shortly before 11 a.m.
The motorcycle, a Canam Spyder, was traveling North on Route 335. RCMP report it appears the driver hit the shoulder of the road and may have lost control. The motorcycle ended up in the ditch on the right side with extensive damaged.
There were no witnesses to the incident and the deceased was alone. At the time of the collision it was cloudy and the pavement was dry.
The deceased was to be transported to Gander Hospital and the motorcycle will undergo a mechanical inspection.
Police are not releasing the name of the driver pending notification of next of kin.
