I don't know about you, but I'm super excited that "Republic of Doyle" has the okay for another season.

For all of you who haven't heard about or seen the show, "Republic of Doyle" is a Newfoundland made and produced CBC television show written by Allan Hawco, who also plays the main character Jake Doyle in the series. Not to mention a Newfoundland cast and crew majority to boot.

Figure of speech -

I don't know about you, but I'm super excited that "Republic of Doyle" has the okay for another season.

For all of you who haven't heard about or seen the show, "Republic of Doyle" is a Newfoundland made and produced CBC television show written by Allan Hawco, who also plays the main character Jake Doyle in the series. Not to mention a Newfoundland cast and crew majority to boot.

Basically the show has the private investigator Jake, with the help of his father played by Sean McGinley, solving cases within the city of St. John's. However, the show displays a unique sense of humour and language - making for an interesting one-hour of television.

Putting aside the fact that the show seems to be shot during the largest consecutive sunny St. John's days in a row that I have ever seen, the producers have painted quite a pretty picture of the province.

Take away the gun fights, high speed chases and the occasional drunken brawl and you have scenic photography and dramatic shots that really open your eyes to the backdrop of St. John's harbour with a variety of colourful houses and old architecture.

You also have a show that has pumped millions into the provincial economy and has created jobs in an industry where, let's face it - there aren't many.

Personally, I'm very proud to be a Newfoundlander and I don't see the word 'Newfie' as an insult - instead I see it as a cultural distinction that makes us different then the rest of Canadians. After all, we are the only province to have our own encyclopedia, pony, dog and dictionary. We have also been ranked the kindest province - although, no one had to tell us that one.

Sitting in my living room on Wednesday nights I'm not only entertained by the mysterious plot that "Republic of Doyle" has to offer, but I'm proud that such a great production was made right here in our own backyard.
