Let's see. We have the Fish, Fun and Folk Festival, Mussel Bed Soiree, Brimstone Head Festival, Festival of Flight, Canada Day celebrations and countless other concerts and community days coming up - and that's just some of what will be happening locally.

Why should you be in the house this summer?

I encourage everyone to take in what they can locally and provincially this year.

I'm a proud Newfoundlander and I have lived here all my life and there are still many communities and attractions that I have yet to see.

After all, we live on an island that has the mouth of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, with the Atlantic Ocean to the north, east and south. We have humpback whales as regular visitors and 200,000 ton icebergs that take two to three years to visit our shores via Iceberg Alley - where the Titanic met it's final resting place in April 1912.

We have hundreds of historic sites, galleries, museums and lighthouses. We also have a World Heritage Site, 10 National Historical Sites, nine Provincial Historical Sites, 14 Provincial Parks and three National Parks throughout the island.

Summer vacation could consist of any of the activities listed above or it could be just as simple as having a campfire on the beach, a boat tour or a hike.

Even small events have something to offer for everyone and if not - at least you got outside to get your daily dose of Vitamin D.
