With the holiday season pretty much upon us The Pilot is noticing the trend of stories and events happening and being planned to help others, both at home and abroad.
Throughout the year we do cover a variety of stories highlighting the caring and sharing of people to help their fellow man, but what is it about the holiday season that makes people want to give just a little (or a lot) more?
Is it that those of us who are in a position to be giving recognize that the need is great and the feeling of goodwill radiates amongst us all to try and make things a little better for others whether we know them personally or not.
There are people who don't have much to give themselves, but they still find a way to make a contribution to the greater good somehow.
It's like the saying goes off in our heads that, "Whatever your problems are, there's always someone who has it harder than you."
It's almost magical to see how people are so unselfish in their pursuit of helping others. You don't have to look hard to find it either.
Whether it's through Operation Christmas Child, McJoyful Days, the Kinsmen Happy Tree, the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign or any number of initiatives, the opportunity presents itself where we can all do our part to help someone who needs it the most.
You might not be able to support them all at once, but if you can lend your kindness to even one holiday project (there are many more than the four mentioned here) through a monetary donation, toy donation, donation of your time or other means to help make a difference, you will share in that special holiday feeling. Here at The Pilot we are hosting our first annual Holiday Food Drive for the Interfaith Goodwill Centre Food Bank until the end of November.
If you haven't already, we'd love for you to take part by dropping off a food donation at The Pilot office.
The non-perishable food items will be delivered to the food bank at the beginning of December.
