Each Wednesday evening people throughout The Pilot coverage area hear a familiar knock on the door.
Their Pilot carrier has arrived to deliver another issue of their weekly community newspaper. With each Wednesday comes the chance for the weather to work for or against the carrier. It may be sunny outside, but it could also be cold, snowing or raining. Still your paper carrier makes sure they have their route covered, and all the while with a smile on their face. You might not be able to say that about some adults who have to trudge out and clean off their vehicles to go to work.
The Pilot carriers are a vital connection between the newspaper and the communities within the coverage area. It may be that the newspaper is in your hands tonight through the efforts of a newspaper carrier ensuring it was delivered to your home. There aren't too many facets of our lives left these days that see members of our community come knocking on our door. Even door-to-door fundraising has disappeared for the most part. Yet the tradition of a newspaper carrier lives on. It is through the continued enthusiasm and dedication of these young people (because currently they are all students) that makes it possible to make such an important connection to The Pilot readership.
While subscriptions and store sales are a vital component to the newspaper circulation, the efforts of carriers to reach people in their homes is vital to the success of any of this provinces community newspapers. Here at The Pilot the newspaper carriers are essential. We hope they realize how valued they really are.
Just recently The Pilot joined the lone newspaper carrier for Campbellton, Stacey Foss, on her route. Stacey is a bundle of energy and a proud Pilot carrier who looks forward to making her rounds to people in the community each week. From the feedback noted her customers appreciate her efforts. As the editorial team carries out their duties each week and strive to bring forward the community news, you always wonder how people receive the final product. It was interesting to watch Stacey interact with her customers and take time to chat with them as she does each week. Knowing that someone with her energy and enthusiasm is bringing forth the sum of the efforts of the people of The Pilot office and a number of other people involved through our St. John's connection is encouraging. It makes our efforts feel all the more worthwhile knowing that someone like Stacey is as eager to bring readers the weekly newspaper as we all are.
To all our Pilot carriers, know that you are valuable members of our team and we couldn't do it without you.
