It seems since we rang in 2010 that the editorial department hasn't had a slow week - or day for that matter.

If involvement in events and issues is an indicator of a vibrant community, then the ones within The Pilot coverage area fit the bill. You've certainly managed to keep us busy whether it's requesting that we attend an event, suggesting a story idea or making your own submissions of articles and/or photos. One thing you never want in a newsroom is to be twiddling your thumbs looking for something to fill the pages of your newspaper. The Pilot editorial staff certainly can't complain about any downtime or having to struggle to find stories.

That is especially true now as we are in "graduation season" as we like to call it, there are year-end wrap-up events and communities/organizations are beginning to promote their summer events. Add this on top to your day-to-day news and community happenings and there's quite a lot to cover.

In our effort to cover events and issues we want to ensure that ample space is provided in the newspaper for any article or photos that are generated. What this means now is that there is a bit of a backlog of items ready and waiting to appear in the pages of The Pilot. Rest assured that we are working our way through having all these events appear in as timely a fashion as possible. We understand that everyone would like to see coverage of their special occasion or event the week it happens, but for now we ask for your understanding and patience in ensuring that each one appears in a way that pleases those involved. We only have so many pages a week to work with for editorial content and we are utilizing those as best we can.

Please don't take this as an indication not to call us to cover your community events. Coverage as requested and where possible will continue as in the past. We also encourage you to continue to submit any items you feel would be of interest to Pilot readers.

On that note, if you have an event or story idea you would like covered, please contact the Pilot editorial staff at 535-6910 and ask for Karen Wells or Pam Snow. You can also e-mail us at editor@pilotnl.ca or psnow@pilotnl.ca. Please allow two days notice for events during the week and contact us at the earliest possible date (no later than the Wednesday prior) for weekend events as coverage of these events is first come, first serve.
