Congratulations are in order to Campbellton Mayor Maisie Clark for signing up to take part in the Follow The Leader Nutrition Month Challenge in March.

What a great example she set for everyone in her community, right from youth to the senior population. Mayor Clark demonstrated that contributing factors to being healthy include having an active lifestyle and eating the right kind of foods.

Her efforts throughout the Challenge were there for the public to see and not everyone would want that kind of pressure put on them. But she did it willingly and with enthusiasm.

As the Pilot followed her weekly progress, Mayor Clark was always proud to show the steps she had accumulated on her pedometer. In fact the use of a pedometer has caught on with many people in Campbellton as result of this Challenge. They followed the lead of the Mayor and have been — and will continue to — count their steps.

While she was the one who added her name to the Challenge, Mayor Clark was never alone in her efforts. This was a great exercise in community spirit and one no that Mayor Clark and the people who supported her in the Challenge won’t soon forget.

In fact, one lasting piece of this event will be in the form of playground equipment made possible by a donation from the Campbellton Trotters exercise group. They want to see youth in their community being active and a playground is a great way for them to do just that.

The ideals of the Challenge are ones we can all incorporate into our daily lives. Something as simple as going out for a walk after supper, adding an extra vegetable or fruit to your plate or encouraging others to be active and eat healthy foods can make a big difference.

Challenge yourself to make some simple changes or additions to your lifestyle and chances are it won’t be long before you see results, and the results will last you a lifetime.
