Dear Editor,
Over the years Lewisporte has developed into a truly beautiful community. The vast majority of its residents take great pride in their property and they make sure that it is very well maintained, and people who come here often say that this is a very neat and tidy town. And so it is!
With this exception.
The gulls and the crows every garbage day have a field day, ripping up homeowner's garbage bags and distributing the contents over individual owners property and over the town as well. I have witnessed our garbage collectors trying to collect all this spewed garbage and I don't think they should have to do it. Their valuable service on behalf of the town should not be delayed or hampered by this added responsibility. It should be the homeowners' responsibility to make sure that the garbage is adequately covered to prevent this blight on our otherwise beautiful town. And if the persons responsible will not take the necessary steps to correct this situation then maybe the Town Council should enact a by-law that makes it a requirement. I am really concerned about this and for the sake of our community I hope there will be co-operations from everyone to remedy the situation.
Further, Editor I want to record a sincere vote of appreciation to all the "outside workers" employed by this town. They are a dedicated professional group of people who perform their basic service to this town and its citizens, in all kinds of winds and weather, and they do it well! My congratulations to them all.
Sincerely,
Max Hart
