Dear Editor:

During these busy modern times, we humans often either overlook or temporarily forget what some of our fellow citizens are doing specifically for us and on a volunteer basis. This was brought home to me recently when just hours before Christmas there was a serious fire at a home in my area of Town. As I watch from across the street, I was amazed how quickly these volunteer firemen of our Town got into their life savings/ support outfits and had a fire fighting apparatus ready.

These individuals who had taken upon themselves to volunteer as firemen are as busy as any of us especially at this time of year yet at the moment they received the call they drop everything and head for the fire scene, not knowing what to expect.

Letter to the editor - Dear Editor:

In the case of which I referred to above, fortunately there was no one caught inside the burning building so the firemen could concentrate their efforts in extinguishing the fire.

Within one hour in this case, the firemen had extinguished the fire and had the gear back in the vehicles. At this time I would like to express my sincere gratitude and thank Chief Kevin Martin and his crew for all their fine work. Perhaps we all should sleep a little easier when we know that this aspects of our survival is well taken care of by a great group of able and qualified firefighters. I would also like to congratulate Newfoundland Power who were quickly on the scene last week and promptly turned off the power.

Best Wishes for

the New Year to you all,

Sincerely,

John M. Earle
