Dear Editor:

Re. downsizing and cutbacks to x-ray and ambulance service to Twillingate and New World Island area - second best is not good enough! The facilities and equipment are already here at the Health Centre - our Government and Central Health can fix this problem by providing necessary funding to hire personnel needed to operate the x-ray and ambulance services as in the past.

Central Health should realize that the population in rural areas such as Twillingate and New World Island are getting older and require more medical care and services. People have moved to this area in recent years with the understanding that a high standard of medical services at the Health Centre here are available to them.

There should be no more downsizing of health services! This is an urgent issue, which our Government and Central Health should correct immediately. There are job opportunities here as well, which outport and rural Newfoundland so badly need.

If we lose these services through downsizing and cutbacks, it is quite possible that all medical services will be taken from here in the future and moved to Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor - one and half to two hours away.

The people of this area do not want that to happen, especially with the Health Centre facilities already here!
