Dear Editor,

Re: Local forestry workers facing uncertain future, Pilot May11/09. Thousands of retirees who worked for companies that have already or are on the verge of going bankrupt are very concerned about their future.

I think it's criminal and unjust that these hard working retirees are put in this situation. Pensions and benefits are the bread and butter on the table for retirees like Gerald and Francis Pearce. I'm a retired auto worker. Members of my organization are worried about their pensions and benefits as well. I have attended many rallies recently. Today (May11/09) I will be joining my union sister and brothers at a rally here in Oshawa calling on the government to protect pension and improve EI benefits. Our chapter membership (CAW Local 222, Retirees Chapter) is over 13,000 and growing. I'm a proud Fogo Island Newfoundlander. I grew up in the little fishing village of Lions Den. Dwyer family moved to Fogo in 1952.
