Health care going back in time

Dear Editor,

What Mr. Oram is doing to the fine people of Lewisporte is deplorable.

Lewisporte is home to a LTC Centre - North Haven Manor also a Personal Care Home- Pleasant View, not including the senior homes in Embree, Twillingate and Birchy Bay. Do these elderly folks have to drive 40-60 minutes for health care? What about the patient that needs INR's done daily until their dosage of Warfarin is regulated? (This could take weeks.) The distance is to short for you to get anything from an insurance company and even then there is a cap. What will anyone do in the winter when travel is harder for the young and the old? I cannot imagine driving 40-60 minutes with a broken leg for an X-ray to verify that it is broken.

The average Newfoundlander does not have the money to throw at a medical situation for their family in need.

If my parent requires these services for a period of time I will bring her to my hometown to have these services met. Not everyone has the luxury of getting a loved one seen at some other health care site.

In my opinion and also the opinion of many that I have spoken to - health care is going back in time and not advancing into the future.

I am sorry that the government takes such a drastic stand that hurts the people of this beautiful province.

Sincerely,

Kimberly Stokes-Paul

(Former resident of Lewisporte with parent still living there)

Don't worry, Kimberly. This decision by our autocratic government is so appauling that the public will never allow Premier Williams to close these lab and x-ray clinics. The protest will not die.
