Dear Editor,

It was with some shock and disgust I heard Minister Oram make the announcement on TV that changes were to be made at our clinic which would mean losing some of the services offered in this area and said services would be made available instead in Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor. All this on the altar of expediency, we are not being "downsized" evidently, we are being "streamlined"?

Dear Editor,

It was with some shock and disgust I heard Minister Oram make the announcement on TV that changes were to be made at our clinic which would mean losing some of the services offered in this area and said services would be made available instead in Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor. All this on the altar of expediency, we are not being "downsized" evidently, we are being "streamlined"?

How about that, are we lucky or what?

There are a large proportion of Seniors in this area, myself being one of them. The changes being proposed will seriously degrade our quality of life and cause increased expense and inconvenience, especially to those that don't have access to transport.

Mr. Oram is a self-made man, obviously of some acumen, but does he have our interests at heart. I don't think so. He knows which side his bread is buttered on and is only carrying out the orders of his political Master. All too often our elected officials are shown to have feet of clay, they espouse standing up for the little man and serving the people who elected them, but once they are in office, its "move along the trough buddy, what's in it for me?"

Concerns are often expressed in cabinet that change is sometimes impacting negatively on life in the outports, and what to do to improve matters. Well, this will certainly have a detrimental effect in this area. It is remarked that Newfoundland's greatest asset, is its people. What a load of baloney, we are not an asset, we are an expense and the books need to be balanced and Seniors are basically non producers and a liability and they must share the load, even though they are the most vulnerable. In all of this, where is the compassion? The first duty of politicians is to take care of themselves, do they not feel they are Honour Bound to sacrifice financially in order to share the burden. You can rip off the Taxpayer for thousands if you are a Politician, serve four and a half months at the taxpayer's expense and that money will never be recovered, that money could cover some of the cost of running our clinic, which Mr. Oram seeks to eliminate.

Let Mr. Oram come to Lewisporte and call a public meeting and justify his decision to our concerned citizens.

I am Sir,

Yours Truly,

Jack Frost

Senior Citizen
