Dear Editor,
Please allow me space in The Pilot to express my opinion regarding the practice of catch and release of salmon. I understand that as of Sept. 8, 2009 there will be a full month of catch and release only.
According to the annual hunting guide, which is published each year, it is illegal to harass big game animals (moose and caribou), by aircraft, boat, 4-wheeler or any other means. Why is it that the rule for salmon is completely the opposite? Each summer anglers are allowed to harass salmon by means of catch and release.
If the salmon stocks are as low as we are being led to believe, why play around with them? Why have one rule for animals and a different one for fish? Salmon weren't created to be primarily a source of sport, but to be primarily a source of food.
Yours truly,
