Dear Editor,
In Newfoundland, we can look forward into the future and see that the developments to take place will ensure our children and grandchildren will have a life with more opportunity than we had and those working away shall be able to return. This is largely due to the result of work done by our Premier the Right Honorable Danny Williams. He is a man set for the grand stage, comfortable dealing with the multi nationals, large corporations and investors interested in developing our economic resources, basically bringing home the bacon.
We laud him for that, but at the same time, what is the rationale for downgrading our health resources, for the sake of saving $222,000 per year? The money saved will be zero due to the increased cost of providing the same service in Gander/Grand Falls-Windsor and associated transportation costs.
He does not need to force these downgrading of facilities on us. This unequal battle is beneath him, his brush paints a wide swathe of canvas, if he wants to fight anyone, let him pick on Quebec.
We are only small time opposition, nobodies, not a worthy opponent for the Premier; he has attained iconic status in this province. Should these cuts go through, his image will be irretrievably damaged and will forever be a blemish on an otherwise impeccable record. An image of being a cold hearted Scrooge will forever be in the memory of those unfortunate to live west of the overpass.
He can be generous and forgiving towards us and reverse this decision, he would be applauded province wide, depriving us of what we regard as a basic human right at the supposed cost of $222,000 per year, well, it's just not right or fair.
Don't let Mr. (Paul) Oram speak for you. He only makes matters worse and arouses righteous indignation. For Mr. Verge, what can we say, he has let his supporters down and should be honour bound to resign, or else be RECALLED.
I'm not a religious man, never go to church, but I do remember something from my younger days of Bible study, it's from The Song of Ruth and goes something like this, Wither thou goest, I shall follow, thy people shall be my people and thy house shall be my house.
Forgive me if I am not completely correct, but what I want to know Mr. Williams, are we still your people?
Yours truly,
Jack Frost
