Dear Editor:
Needless to say, we were all very pleased to hear on Oct. 23 that the Lab and X-ray services would be maintained in Lewisporte.
A tremendous amount of time, energy, planning and thought went into the battle we fought with government. The Coalition Committee members and others have to be commended for giving of their time and effort in bringing about a resolution to this issue.
However, having been a member of the Coalition Committee since it's inception, I want to make something abundantly clear. If it had not been for the tenacity, the commitment and dedication, and the outstanding leadership of Rev. Arthur Elliott, this issue might not have had such a positive outcome. Our thanks must go to him.
He garnered support from this area and from across the entire province and this support gave the Committee respect and credibility. He just never gave up and when some of us felt the die was cast he kept on insisting that we should find a way to continue the fight. And we did. Consequently, the end result was positive for us all.
