CORNER BROOK -

The 617 Dambusters Air Cadet Squadron's Male and Female Biathlon Teams attended the Provincial Air Cadet Biathlon Competitions in Corner Brook on the weekend of Jan. 30-31.

The cadets competed in Individual Ski Races on Jan. 30 and Team Relay Ski Races on Jan. 31.

The male team includes FSgt Jonathan Mills, FSgt Andrew Gale and FCpl Joshua Bown. The female team members are FSgt Kristie Boyd, Sgt Holly Patterson and LAC Samantha Budgell.

After the Individual Races on Saturday, Kristie and Jonathan both received bronze medals in their individual categories. Holly and Jonathan were two of only three competitors who were able to shoot clean on Saturday in very difficult, almost blizzard like conditions.

On Sunday, both teams skied hard. The female team finished third and brought home bronze medals. This was Kristie's last year competing as she is in her graduating year. The past two years Kristie advanced to the nationals. Holly's has competed the last three years at the provincial level. She looks forward to training and the regional competition next fall. This was Samantha's first year skiing and she did her team and coach proud - skiing and finishing both races and shooting very well for her first year.

Most of these cadets were expected to be skiing in Gander on Feb. 7 in an attempt to qualify for the Newfoundland Winter Games.

Joshua Bown enters the shooting range during the 2010 Biathlon Provincial Championships in Corner Brook.
