Lewisporte -
Members of the Notre Dame Skating Club had excellent performances at the provincial skating championships in Gander in February.
Three skaters qualified from the regional competition in January and three of these skaters earned medals with Madison Canning capturing the gold medal in Preliminary Ladies 12 years, Amber Tremblett bringing home the silver medal in Junior Bronze Ladies 12 and 13 years and Kristie Boyd with the bronze medal in Senior Silver Ladies.
These three skaters are no strangers to success on the ice as all three have been participating in competitive skating for quite some time.
After a few seasons of skating in Grand Falls-Windsor Madison is skating back at Lewisporte this year. She skated at the regionals on Jan. 16 at Botwood placing second and receiving a silver medal. This qualified her to go to the provincials on Feb. 12 where she placed first and earned a gold medal in the Preliminary Women 12 years and older catagory.
Amber Tremblett also captured a silver medal in January at the regionals in Botwood. From there she advanced to the provincial championships where she captured a silver medal in Junior Bronze Ladies 12 and 13 years. At the Botwood competition Amber also competed in the run-off competition which was a Winter Games qualifier. Amber performed well at the competition and earned a spot on the Central team at the Newfoundland & Labrador Winter Games in March.
Kristie Boyd is no stranger to competitive skating as she has succeeded in many events through her senior years. She recently competed at the provincials where she skated away with a bronze medal in Senior Silver Ladies competition.
