NEW WORLD ISLAND -

The Lewisporte Lynx have raised another banner to the rafters after winning the New World Island Basketball Invitational tournament recently.

The tournament was a tune-up to the Lynx Provincial bid and consisted of four teams from Grand Falls-Windsor, Gander Bay, Lewisporte and the host New World Island.

The Lynx started off the tournament with a convincing 59-33 win over Grand Falls-Windsor. Nathan Mitchell led the way for the Lynx with 19 points.

The second game for the Lynx was a match-up against the New World Island squad. The Lynx pulled out of this win 70-54 led by Dylan Decker who notched 24 points.

The third and final game for the Lynx was against Gander Bay. A win for the Lewisporte stars would give them a spot in the championship game. This game was over early as the Lynx dominated Gander Bay 73-13. Brandon Downer and Chris Ivany each had 10 points for the Lynx in the win.

The Championship match-up saw the Lynx face off against Grand Falls-Windsor for the title. The game was the closest game the Lynx had during the tournament, but they were still able to pull out the win with a 70-59 victory. Helping to secure the victory for the Lynx was Dylan Decker with 22 points while Tyler Brenton added 10 points.

The Lynx have had a successful season, winning consecutive banners for their high school in Invitational tournaments.
