GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR – The Notre Dame Blast recently won their second tournament of the summer at the Regional Softball tournament held in Grand Falls-Windsor on July 18.

The win for the team earned them a spot into the provincial tournament scheduled in St. Johns for September. The tournament featured eight teams from across Newfoundland played three round robin games before playing in a cross over style playoffs.

After the round-robin play, the Blast were on top of the standings with two wins and a loss. In their semi-final game, the Blast had a chance for revenge against a Stephenville team that defeated them the day before in the round robin. The Blast came out strong in the game and defeated Stephenville 17-12 to secure a spot in the championship against the host team Grand Falls-Windsor. In the final, the match was a low-scoring affair, but the Blast fought hard and secured the win 10-4.

The Notre Dame Blast softball team is a mixture of players from the former Lewisporte Sea-Devils and the Norris Arm Crusher teams.

Next up for the Blast is the provincials set to take place on August 20 - 22 in St. John's and then the annual tournament in Clarenville scheduled for the Labour Day weekend. According to the team, the long-term goal for the Blast is to qualify for the nationals in Niagara Falls in 2011.
