During the weekends of May 25th and June 1st Lewisporte Academy’s Grade 6 girls and boys basketball teams hosted a tournament and invited several other teams to compete, including New World Island Academy’s Prowlers and Riverwood Academy’s Bulldogs. This was the first ever tournament hosted by Lewisporte Academy and both the boys and girls teams took home the gold medals and banners for their school. As well, the girls’ and boys’ teams were undefeated in all of their respective games; an admirable accomplishment considering these teams were formed just three months prior. The banners were unveiled during the school’s closing assembly on June 22 and now hang proudly in the gymnasium at Lewisporte Academy in hopes of inspiring future basketball athletes to play fair, have fun and believe that anything is possible with hard work and commitment.
