The community calendar listings are a regular feature in The Pilot newspaper and online (www.lportepilot.ca).

Events within The Pilot coverage area being held by not-for-profit groups/organizations can be advertised in this section at no charge (for up to three weeks). To add your listing email the information to ksnow@pilotnl.ca, fax it to (709) 535-8640, call (709) 535-6910 or drop off at the Pilot office at 151 Main St., Lewisporte.

Visit www.lportepilot.ca and go to the “My Calendar” link on the home page to list your event on our website calendar as well.

Tree of Love

St. Margaret's Anglican Church, Change Islands will be having their annual Tree of Love again this year. If you would like to give a donation in memory of a love one please send donation to Brenda Boyd, P.0.Box 170, Change Islands, NL A0G 1R0.

Christmas Hampers

Applications will be received on Dec. 8–10 a.m. - 3 p.m. All applicants must apply in person. Proof of income and expenses will be required.

 

Memory Tree and

Dedication Service

Dec. 9 – Come light up the Lewisporte Health Centre Memory Tree. A bulb will be lit with every donation in memory or in dedication of a loved one or friend. All donations will be used to purchase items for the residents at the Lewisporte Health Centre. Receipts will be issued for all donations. Donations may be made at the Tuck Shop, Lewisporte Health Centre during regular business hours or mailed to Lewisporte Health Centre, P.O. Box 880, Lewisporte, NL A0G 3A0. Lewisporte Community Blood Drive

Dec. 14 – You have the power to give life. Donate blood and join the movement at the Philadelphia Pentecostal Church gymnasium from 4 – 8 p.m. 70 donors needed. Canadian blood services. It’s in you to give. Book your appointment at blood.ca

 

Clothesline Program

We want the things you don’t. Donate your reusable clothing and cloth items to the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Clothesline. Drop your bagged items in our red drop boxes located at Home Hardware. For further details call 1-800-505-5525.

Christmas Cards

Are you looking to help support those living with cancer in Newfoundland and Labrador? The Canadian Cancer Society is now selling beautiful holiday cards made by local artists for just $12 per pack. Funds raised will go towards vital prevention programs and support services such as Daffodil Place. Please contact the Canadian Cancer Society toll free at 1-866-545-9534 or visit cancer.ca/nl to order your cards.

 

Submissions welcome by The Pilot

The Pilot encourages the public to submit photos for a number of various features in the newspaper and online at www.lportepilot.ca. Photos can be emailed to editor@pilotnl.ca. Remember to include the name of the photographer so we can give them photo credit.

• Community Heroes — Submissions of photos for the Community Heroes section of the Pilot are welcome. Groups or businesses that make donations in support of individuals, schools or groups in the communities within the Pilot coverage area are welcome to participate.

• Birds of a feather — Share your enjoyment of bird watching by sending along photos of feathered friends you notice around your home or in your travels.

• Where in the world? — Have you visited somewhere interesting lately and would like to share a photo or two. Maybe you are originally from the Pilot coverage area and are living abroad. Readers would certainly be interested to learn about other cultures and lifestyles.

• My pet and I — Send along a photo of yourself with your favourite pet friend with some details to let readers know who you and your pet are and what kind of pet you have.

• Through the lens — Are you someone who always has their camera at the ready or did you just happen to encounter something that you were lucky enough to capture through a photo. Maybe it’s just a slice of life photo that you know people would enjoy sharing. Feel free to send along your photos for this fun feature.

• Schools, churches, community groups, etc from within the Pilot coverage area are always welcome to send along photo and article submissions from their activities, projects and accomplishments.
