Christmas Hampers

The Salvation Army Lewisporte will be receiving applications for Christmas hampers on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Fridays beginning Friday, Nov. 14 until Dec.12 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 pm. All applicants must apply in person.



U.C.W. Fall Bazaar

Nov. 15 – U.C.W. will be having their Fall Bazaar, Dessert, Tea, Bake and Craft Sale, Mystery Parcels at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew's United Church Auditorium.



Bottle Blitz

Nov. 15 – The Notre Dame District of Sparks, Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders and Rangers will be holding a Bottle Blitz in Lewisporte and Embree beginning at 10 a.m. weather permitting.



NORRIS ARM NORTH



Nov. 15 – The Norris Arm North Recreation committee will be hosting their annual Bake and Craft Sale and morning coffee at the Community Centre beginning at 10 a.m.



BOYD'S COVE



Nov. 18 – St. George's Anglican Church Women are having afternoon tea, bake sale and mystery parcels at 2 p.m. at the Firehall in Boyd's Cove.

Influenza Vaccine Clinics

Clinics for the influenza vaccine will be held at the Summerford Town Hall on Nov. 18 and 19 and at the Twillingate U.C. Christian Education Centre on Nov. 20 and 21. To book your appointment call New World Island 629-3681, Twillingate 884-4214. If you meet one of the following criteria, call whichever location is convenient for you to book your appointment: age 65 and over; people with chronic diseases such as heart and/or lung disease, diabetes or cancer; residents and staff of Personal Care Homes; pregnant women; household contacts of people with chronic diseases; essential service workers – police, firefighters, teachers, ambulance drivers or others whose services may be considered essential; individuals who work in the live poultry industry. The Pneumococcal Vaccine is also available for people 65 and over and those of all ages with chronic disease. This vaccine in only needed once in a lifetime. When you call for an appointment for your Flu vaccine, please indicate if you also need the Pneumococcal Vaccine.

Community Access Program

Does sending an email seem like a major accomplishment? Do computer terms seem confusing to you? Own a computer but not sure how to use it? Want to surf the web or learn how to use Facebook? If you answered yes to any of these questions than the Community Access Program is for you. Learn all you need to know to get started on a computer for free. So come on out and get an introduction to the computer and its component parts. Learn basic operation, mouse control, keyboard fundamentals, how to find and open programs and much more. Flue and Pneumococcal Clinics

Central Health wishes to advise that the Public Health Nurse is offering flu and pneumococcal immunization clinics starting in November. These clinics are for persons eligible under the Provincial guidelines including adults age 65 and older, people with chronic conditions such as heart or lung disease, diabetes or cancer, and essential workers such as teachers, ambulance attendants, and firefighters. Children from the ages of 6 to 23 months are included in the Provincial guidelines, but must be vaccinated at the Public Health Office in Lewisporte. Please note that if you are unable to make any of the following appointment dates, a Drop-In Clinic, with no appointment required, will be held at the Lewisporte Mall on Nov. 28, 2008 from 10 to 4 p.m. Following is a list of the Flu Clinics:

Nov. 13 - North Haven Manor Auxillary Building 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Nov. 27 – Norris Arm South Town Hall 9 to 4 p.m.

Fall Conference

On Nov. 18-19 at the Hotel Gander, Gander the Central Regional Wellness Coalition will be holding a Fall Conference. “Planting a Seed: Building Community Capacity From the Roots UP” There is no registration fee! Any Community based groups, service providers, government departments or anyone with an interest in community development can attend this conference. Checkpoints

The Lewisporte, Twillingate and Carmanville RCMP Detachments would like to remind the General Public that they will be conducting checkpoints until Nov. 30. Checkpoints will be within their own Detachment areas as well as joint checkpoints involving one or more Detachments will be conducted. From Oct. 31-Nov. 13 they will be focusing on impaired drivers. From Nov. 14-Nov. 23 they will be focusing on seatbelts and proper usage of booster seats. From Nov. 24-Nov. 30 they will be focusing on valid drivers licences, vehicle registrations and insurance policies. Remember safe homes, safe communities.
