GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, N.L. – Justin Hawco is the mastermind behind the writing and the videos. He’s also the cute one.
That’s according to Mike Lynch, one of the stars of popular online Newfoundland humor production, “Outhouse TV”.
The pair work with collaborator Markus Rose to put out Newfoundland-themed comedy videos weekly. If you have been on Facebook, you’ve probably seen them.
Lynch might be trying a little reverse phycology, but the respect does seem to be genuine. For every evening they spend filming and acting, Hawco spends another two evenings editing. And then there’s the challenge of coming up with material.
“If you put out a video that fails, it’s hard not to dwell on it,” says Hawco. “You know some things just don’t work.”
In addition to the online work, Lynch likes to up the pressure on the comedic material with stand-up comedy. He did his first set six years ago and he has been performing full-time for the last two.
He spent the 2018 Exploits Valley Salmon Festival as emcee in the character of Cecil O’Brien, an opinionated (and very funny) middle-aged bayman.
Lynch is embarking on his very first cross-country standup tour next month. The Best Kind Comedy Tour featuring Michael Lynch, Brian Aylward and Colin Hollett begins in Marystown Aug. 22. The tour is two months, wrapping up in Victoria, British Columbia.
