A total of $4.41 million has been announced for an indoor swimming pool to be located in Lewisporte.

The Provincial Government and Town of Lewisporte are partnering on an 80/20 ratio, with the Provincial component being $3.5 million and the Town contributing the remainder of the project cost.

The announcement was made on Friday afternoon, with Premier Kathy Dunderdale, Department of Municipal Affairs Minister Kevin O’Brien, Lewisporte MHA Wade Verge, Lewisporte Mayor Brian Peckford, Town councillors and a large gathering of residents in attendance.

For years residents have been actively lobbying for a pool. The Town of Lewisporte identified it as a top funding priority in their last municipal budget.

The pool will be located next to the Lewisporte Stadium. The pool area will be 18.2 metres x 7.2 metres. The facility will also include change rooms, a community room, reception and viewing area, staff areas and storage.
