The Town of Port au Port West-Aguathuna-Felix Cove is currently moving forward with the development of its first municipal plan.
Andrew Smith, an urban planner consultant representing Smith Community Planning, said as part of the public consultation process the town has been receiving online input from residents through a municipal plan survey that was posted on its website.
Prior to the retention of Smith Community Planning, the first step involved a ministerial order dated Dec. 18, 2017 to form the town's municipal planning area.
This establishes the area the plan and in this case it’s been determined to be the same as the municipal boundary.
Smith said that the consultation process, along with the preparation of a background report, is ongoing until the end of October and will be submitted to council shortly thereafter for review.
The next step is to have a public meeting sometime in October before finalizing the consultation process. A first draft of the Plan will be completed by mid to late November.
Smith said the whole process usually takes a year or a little more and the intent of council is to have it in place in late spring or summer of 2019.
He said during the process there will be many opportunities for the public to have input into this. Residents can follow the process on the Smith Community Planning website at: http://smithcommunityplan.wixsite.com/home or on the Town's Facebook page.
