International Grenfell Association approves $1 million in funding


The International Grenfell Association (IGA), during their 166th general meeting, approved more than $1 million for community programs for organizations in Labrador and the Northern Peninsula in Newfoundland.


The IGA looked at 76 applications for funding and approved money for 40 of those organizations. The following is the list of organizations that will receive funding:


  1. Canadian Cancer Society - Daffodil Place Guest Room Refurbishing.
  2. Canadian Red Cross Society (Happy Valley-Goose Bay) – Health Equipment Loan Program.
  3. Charles J. Andrew Youth Treatment Centre (Sheshatshiu) – Multi Purpose and Fitness Rooms.
  4. Concerned Citizens for a Safer Community (Englee) – Englee Youth Centre.
  5. Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards – Rural Outreach and Engagement.
  6. Faculty of Medicine (Memorial University) – Health Care Profession Summer Camp.
  7. Flower’s Cove Recreation Committee (Flower’s Cove) – Recreation Gym for Seniors and Adults.
  8. Food Security Network of NL- Mobilizing Community Food Security on the Northern Peninsula.
  9. French Shore Historical Society (Conche) – Creating the Grandois Archive.
  10. Grenfell Historical Society (St. Anthony) – Tea House Trail/Signage Restoration.
  11. Hope Air (Regional) – Flights of Hope.
  12. Kangidluasuk Student Program (Nain) – Torngat Youth Leadership Expedition.
  13. Labrador Creative Arts Festival (Happy Valley-Goose Bay) – Coming Home.
  14. Labrador Institute of Memorial University (Happy Valley-Goose Bay) – Grenfell Association Indigenous fellowship Fund.
  15. Main Brook Recreation Committee – Completion of Main Brook Community Centre.
  16. Mary’s Harbour Recreation Committee – Sports for a Healthier Lifestyle.
  17. Memorial University (The Harris Centre) – Population Project.
  18. Northern Peninsula East Heritage Corridor – Destination Development of Trails.
  19. Northern Peninsula Regional Service Board (Regional) – Uniforms and First Aid Equipment.
  20. NunatuKavut Community Council Inc. – Elder and Youth Traditional Craft Making Workshop.
  21. Postville Inuit Community Government – Recreation Equipment.
  22. Quebec Labrador Foundation – Cultivating Youth Leaders Through Outdoor Environmental Training and Education.
  23. Riddles N Rhymes Daycare (St. Anthony) – Play Yard Restoration.
  24. Rigolet Inuit Community Government – Recreation.
  25. Sandy Cove Lions Club – Materials for Washrooms and Furnace Room.
  26. St. Anthony Volunteer Fire Department – Rescue Equipment.
  27. St. Barbe Development Association/Community Youth Network – Youth Fitness Program.
  28. Savage Cove Recreation Committee – Playground Equipment.
  29. Social Butterflies 50+ Club (Labrador Straits) – The Impact of the Women’s Institute on the Development of its Members in the Labrador Straits.
  30. Southern Labrador Family Centres (Mary’s Harbour) – Community Playground.
  31. Straits Development Association – Deep Cove Heritage Walking Trail.
  32. The Lichen Group (Happy Valley-Goose Bay) – Learning and Working Together to Support Crafts, Culture and Wellness.
