With the first performance of the World's End Theatre Company (see story page 1B) under their belts, the momentum to grow this initiative is underway.
With the backing of the Shorefast Foundation, Zita Cobb and the enthusiasm of Fogo Island and Change Islands residents, this theatre company has a bright future ahead of it.
While Fogo Island is known as a tourist attraction, it is becoming a cultural attraction as well with the many music festivals that take place there each summer. A theatre company will be another draw for tourists looking for a unique islands experience. There are so many stories of the history of the islands to be told and the theatre company would be the perfect way to do it.
While the youngest member of the company is 19-years-old, the hope is that younger aspiring actors and actresses will take up an interest in the theatre. If anything can be done to stem the flow of outmigration surely it will be welcomed there.
With the wealth of natural talent amongst the residents of Fogo Island and Change Islands the World's End Theatre Company will be the one's to watch. Surely it won't be long before they are known in theatre circles and people flock to the island to take in their performances.
Break a leg!
Blazing a new trail
