Lewisporte - LEWISPORTE Two individuals charged with a number of break and enters in Lewisporte will be spending time behind bars for their actions.
Back in January an 18 year-old male and a 22 year-old female from the Lewisporte Detachment area were charged with five counts of break and enters into businesses as well as two break and enters into homes between November of 2007 and January of this year.
Businesses illegally entered included the Lewisporte Yacht Club, Heavenly Bodies Fitness Centre, Salvation Army Citadel, Classic Cuts and the Needs Store on the corner of Coronation Street and Main Street.
Constable Carolyn Coffin informed The Pilot that the two were sentenced in Provincial Court in Gander on Feb. 28.
The female got 17 months of incarceration in total which she will be serving at the womens correctional facility in Clarenville, explained Cst. Coffin. He got 23 months in custody which will be served at Her Majestys penitentiary in St. Johns.
Both will be placed on probation for one year following their release.
Cst. Coffin said officers at the Lewisporte Detachment are pleased with the sentences.
We were very pleased with the way the justice system came out, said the officer. I think the victims were satisfied as well with that.
