Welcome to Who-ville!

The Grinch, standing all alone in the center of the gym as the students sang their Christmas song and played their new instruments, was beginning to feel left out - but at least he had a tree!

The Grinch visits New World Island Academy

Christmas spirit? At New World Island Academy?

Nothing to worry about! This, despite the fact that the Grinch from Who-ville visited on Dec. 17. But try as he might, the Grinch was unable to steal the Christmas spirit from the Kindergarten to Grade 6 classes but instead helped create even a more intense good feeling for the season.

Planned as a learning experience by the local Literacy/Numeracy Committee, the day had the slogan "Welcome to Who-ville."

SUMMERFORD - Christmas spirit? At New World Island Academy?

Nothing to worry about! This, despite the fact that the Grinch from Who-ville visited on Dec. 17. But try as he might, the Grinch was unable to steal the Christmas spirit from the Kindergarten to Grade 6 classes but instead helped create even a more intense good feeling for the season.

Planned as a learning experience by the local Literacy/Numeracy Committee, the day had the slogan "Welcome to Who-ville."

Students were involved the whole day in various exercises that were designed to be educational and at the same time fun. Exercises ranged from making musical instruments for the Who-ville Orchestra to writing letters and making Christmas cards and posting them at the Who-ville Post Office. Each exercise had a focus on literacy and/or numeracy as well as kept an eye out for that big, bad Grinch - who really wasn't as bad as his reputation had him painted.

When The Pilot dropped by at 2:30 p.m., all students were in the gym involved in various physical activities such as the Grinch relay where each student in the grade raced to retrieve a pretend gift from getting into the hands of the Grinch. Then all students joined in with their special instruments made earlier for the Who-ville orchestra and played along with a Christmas song. The final touch was for Mr. Grinch (played by an older student) to pass out candy canes as students left the gym for their homeroom prior to leaving for home. So, Mr. Grinch wasn't so bad after all.
