LEWISPORTE - Members of the O2 Running Club are taking to the streets once again.
According to Club President Mike Pearce this winter wasn't ideal.
"This past winter was somewhat challenging for outside running considering the ever present wind chill. We are looking forward to favorable running conditions from now right through to the fall," said Mr. Pearce.
The club has been busy over the past month preparing for the upcoming running season.
"We have resumed our weekly group run; we have already held an outdoor information session on hill running and strides and the club has made presentations to various community groups," said Mr. Pearce. "Many of our members have started to prepare for the Tely 10 so the Club Coaches are busy supporting and facilitating this training."
The club currently has 42 members and is looking to grow this number.
On Friday May 1, 2009 the club will hold registration for a "Learn to Run" program at the Lewisporte Bowling Alley from 6-7 p.m.
"This is an eight week walk to run program under the guidance of club coaches and run leaders. It is designed for someone who is an active walker and would like to become a runner. Registration is in the form of a club membership, which is only $10.00," adds Mr. Pearce.
The club will also accept new members at any time during the year. According to Pearce the benefits are many.
"The club promotes physical activity and a healthy lifestyle which in turn helps reduce stress, improve cardio and strength, and boost self image. The sport is simple, it is cheap, and empowering."
