BAY ROBERTS, NL — A team of pool players from Bay Roberts will compete next month at the American Poolplayers Association's prestigious World Pool Championships in Las Vegas.

The Westside Charlie's team features captain Delores Strickland, co-captain Josh Squibb and Glen Dowden, April Drover, Peter Jerrett and Tony Ricketts.

The team earned the right to compete in Las Vegas at the provincial qualifier in May. Westside Charlie's lost its first game but won the next four in order to make it to the championship match.

According to Strickland, this will be the first team from Bay Roberts to compete at the World Championship in 11 years. The event — billed as the largest amateur pool tournament in the world — takes place Aug. 13-20.
