Satellite images show the devastation in Gaza after Israeli airstrikes

Satellite images captured the devastation in Gaza on Tuesday following Israeli airstrikes on the besieged enclave, days after Hamas’s assault on Gaza.

The Israeli bombardment and destruction of Gaza City was foreshadowed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who promised a response that would “resonate with them for generations.”

Drone footage from Maxar Technologies shows the explosion from the airstrike. In another image, destroyed and burnt residential buildings can be seen.

According to drone footage from Maxar Technologies, the Al-Sawsi and Al Garbi mosques in Gaza have also been destroyed.

Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli airstrikes targeted homes in Gaza’s Sheikh Ratwan and al-Nasr neighborhoods. The Palestinian Ministry of Health said.

Gaza has been subject to Israel’s land, air and sea blockade since 2007, which has had a devastating effect on Palestinian citizens. About 2 million people live in the narrow landmass.

Israel declared a “total blockade” of the besieged Gaza Strip following a Hamas attack on the country on Saturday.

“No power, no food, no gas, everything is closed. We are fighting human animals and we act accordingly,” said Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, a former IDF commander who now serves in Netanyahu’s hardline nationalist government.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 921 people have died and 4,630 have been injured in Gaza and the West Bank so far.

Avi Gold, a spokesman for the Israeli embassy in Washington, said at least 1,000 people had died in Israel.
