The Twitter API issue breaks links, images, and third-party usage

Several features on Twitter experienced temporary problems on Monday, as users reported issues with broken links, images and at least one third-party app.

The affected features were back to normal an hour after the outages were first reported.

Users reported that when they clicked on the link posted on Twitter, a black window was displayed with the text “Your current API program does not have access to this endpoint.” The same message appeared when an NBC News reporter tried to use Tweetdeck, a third-party site that connects to Twitter accounts.

As the phrase “Twitter API” began to affect users, it started gaining popularity.

NBC News noticed a steep drop in user visits to news articles from Twitter before 11:45 a.m. ET. The ability to embed tweets in NBC News articles also appeared to be disrupted.

Some users reported problems viewing or uploading images to Twitter. NetBlocks, a digital watchdog that monitors internet outages, tweeted confirming that Twitter was experiencing widespread problems.

“Confirmed: Twitter is currently experiencing international slowdowns and outages, affecting many users, as well as image and video content; this incident is not related to nationwide internet outages or #TwitterDown filtering,” NetBlocks He tweeted that.

Twitter support said in a tweet Some features “may not work as expected right now.”

“We’ve made an internal change that has had some unintended consequences,” Twitter support said. “We are working on this now and will share an update once it is fixed.”
